| Make That Call! - Effective telephone technique for referrals and the job search |
Do you put off difficult phone calls?
Are you able to create the right impression on the phone?
Do you get what you want when you make a 'cold call'?
Have you ever missed an opportunity through not making a call you know you should have made?
Could you be better at 'warming up' cold calls?
The telephone suffers from one big drawback: we all have one and we assume we all know how to use it to our best advantage. But in the business context, nothing could be further from the truth.
You may think that you can do everything by email, but sooner or later you have to pick up the phone. But communicating well on the phone demands certain skills: unlike email where you have time to formulate a response, the phone is a two way conversation, so you have to be well prepared and ready to deal with challenge. And unlike a 'face to face' conversation, you don't have the visual cues that most of us rely on so much to tell you what's going on behind the actual words themselves. But perhaps most difficult of all is the fact that the recipient of your call will build an almost instant image of you based not on who you really are, but on the image that your voice alone projects.
This workshop helps you improve your 'hit rate' when using the phone to seek information, explore job opportunities and develop contacts.
There is ample opportunity for 'role play' to try out new techniques and approaches in a safe, supportive environment, and to discuss and resolve any specific issues that you may have in getting the best from the telephone as a business tool.
The course leaders demonstrate tips and tricks for making your calls - and your response to calls - more effective, getting around 'gatekeepers', identifying the right person to speak to, asking for information and referrals, and 'cold calling'.
This workshop is held at the school's premises or at a venue booked by the school. We provide a comprehensive workshop manual and offer immediate post-event email and telephone support to attendees.
The workshop can be run as a half day (approx. three hours teaching plus coffee break) or a full day (six hours teaching plus lunch and tea/coffee breaks) which offers more opportunity for interactivity, role play and feedback.
Workshop led by Judith Perle or Tony Newton.

Guide price for full day: £1,525. Guide price for half day: £1,100.
